Clic to listen the Leopard
The Leopard is a rare animal and very difficult to observe.
It lives mainly in the bush (forest) and in trees.
It is an excellent climber, it possesses sharp claws
that retract like domestic cats in order that it can
grasp prey and climb.
It is the wildlife photographer¹s dream before
each trip to
meet a leopard and he knows that even with great knowledge
of wildlife, an encounter is very much a matter of chance
and being in the right place at the right time.
It could take many years to see a leopard and not just weeks
or months !

The favorite prey of the Leopard is the Grant¹s
gazelle,
which the leopard will carry high into a tree to devour
safely out of reach of hyenas and lions. But this hunter
will eat anything it finds in its path, like this small Warthog
in the photograph above, that it has hunted in the magnificent
reserves of Lake Nakuru, not far from lake Victoria in Kenya.
The wildlife photographer who is also naturalist, knows
that if he has the luck to find a leopard, he will modify his
itinerary and will follow it for as long as he is able
(even if this is several hours/days), This can be extremely
difficult because of the ever present risks. The forest, far
from civilization, contains many dangers.
The most serious is to become stranded in your vehicle
(4x4 four wheels drive) perhaps in a rut a hole or to
damage the chassis, because often nobody will come
to the rescue. That is the life of adventure that we
enjoy and are prepared to endure !
