Is The buffalo dangerous ?

The buffalo seems inoffensive, lying down in the water
surrounded by egrets, but if you approach (too near)
50 meters approximately, The buffalo will turn your way
the minute it sees you, so that it is abla to look at you
and to hold you in its gaze.

Try to photograph a buffalo from behind !

Which picture do you prefer ?
left or right ?

The photographer has to have long optics to remain
distanced to the maximum, but it will choose the side
according to the light (I have chosen light head-on)
and as the buffalo will turn to the intruder
you obtain a good centering.

The buffalo is very dangerous !

Do not gaze too hard into its eyes !
if it begins to scratch the ground with a paw
and if it declines its head and squints upwards
it is time to start the engine and to leave quickly
because even a Land Rover could not withstand
the impact of an assault by a buffalo !

The behaviour of wildlife is rich and varied,
some animals ignore your presence but other
animals will be angry at your presence; it is a fact
that there are bad characters amongst humans too.

Caution, and knowledge of the subject and location,
secrets to success for the wildlife photographer.
